This webinar will allow you to gain a greater understanding of how the women of gang intervention, work closely with our community members, civic leaders, and law enforcement to prevent violence in our communities.

Moderators

Alma Burke is a Director at the USC Department of Public Safety, with 27 years of law enforcement experience, 24 of those with the Los Angeles Police Department. She is a dedicated public servant who is currently on the board of the California Women of Homeland Security, a recent graduate of the Safer Communities Institute, and the Vice President of the Hispanic American Police Command Officers Association. Alma holds a master’s degree from USC and is currently a doctoral candidate at Rossier School of Education and Organizational Leadership.

Anne Tremblay is the Deputy Chief of the Problem Property & Public Protection Division of the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office. Anne previously served as the Mayor’s chief legal counsel and also led the LA Mayor’s Office of Gang Reduction & Youth Development for seven years. Anne holds a JD from Emory University School of Law and BA from UC Berkeley.

Panelists

Paula Afanador is a Program Manager for the Los Angeles Mayor’s Office of Gang Reduction & Youth Development (GRYD). Paula oversees and supports gang prevention and intervention providers while also leading the office's youth diversion and youth reentry grants. She holds a MPA from the University of La Verne.

Michelle Fuentes-Miranda is a community leader and youth development professional with over 25 years of experience as a teacher, school principal, youth program director and nonprofit administrator. Michelle is the Founder and President of the Alliance for Community Empowerment (ACE). ACE provides GRYD gang prevention and intervention services as well as education, job training, leadership development and support services for youth and young adults in the West San Fernando Valley.

Barbara Jett is a Program Coordinator for Soledad Enrichment Action, where she is responsible for their gang intervention, youth and adult reentry programs. Through her love for the community and her potential to inspire change, Barbara became a trained, professional intervention specialist focusing on case management, crisis intervention, and street mediation.

Tina Padilla is the Executive Director of Community Warriors 4 Peace-Northeast. Tina developed her expertise through lived experience growing up in Northeast Los Angeles. She holds a bachelor’s degree in human development and serves as a nationwide trainer for the Urban Peace Institute.
